Luca Battaglia
Luca Battaglia was born in Biella, Italy. He moved to Naples to pursue studying photography. As a photographer, he traveled the world exploring the artistic dimensions of everyday life and highlighted the effected people and places of the issues that were assigned to him as a photojournalist. He moved to the U.S. in 1997 and has now found himself residing in Madrid, New Mexico. His mixed-media work illuminates the transformative power of nature. It seems to be grounded in its abstraction. These are the pieces of junk cars left to decompose under the hand of the elements of New Mexico. While they usually litter our landscape, Luca presents them as objects of beauty. He has done nothing to disturb their characteristics. He has not manipulated the paint or the rust, only polished them with beeswax. He is interested in recognizing that everything around us is impermanent and will change and evolve, as we live.
